![]() Now a well-established event and annual gathering of industry leaders and professionals, JIC's GEM Awards recognizes the outstanding achievements of individuals and companies whose work raises the visibility and status of fine jewelry and watches. GEM Awards honor retailers, manufacturers, and/or media who meet the stringent criteria to be leaders in their field. The GEM Awards committee, made up of industry leaders, determines the awards presented each year.
Jewelry Information Center (JIC) held its eighth annual GEM Awards gala on Friday, January 8, 2010 at Gotham Hall, in New York City. Dr. Madeleine K. Albright, former Secretary of State, was awarded with the GEM Award for Style, presented to her by Tina Brown, editor of The Daily Beast. Simon Doonan, creative director of Barneys New York, hosted the event. The evening also included National Jeweler’s Retailer Hall of Fame, which inducted Richard Eiseman, Robert Rottenberg and Jon Bridge. Other notable attendees included Lindsay Price from Lipstick Jungle; TV Personality and Stylist Robert Verde; and Russell Simmons, hip hop pioneer, jewelry designer and JIC’s 2009 GEM Award for Style recipient.
